Feature Friday: Brandon Slavinski

Brandon Slavinski is an American singer-songwriter and Music Producer out in the Los Angeles, CA area for Red Letterbox Productions.  At age 9 he picked up the guitar after his first of two heart surgeries for SVT and hasn't stopped playing since. He has collaborated with and produced many talented artists and writers throughout the United States. Slavinski focuses on each artist, providing skilled direction, to bring out the best in their music and performance.

Slavinski independently wrote, performed, produced and released his debut album, 'Calistory' an indie-pop rock album that carries truth and emotion in every note and lyric sung. It was not until the release of his second EP, 'King of Broken Hearts' that Slavinski achieved commercial success with song 'Tragedy' being heard in Hollister Co. Stores for their Spring 2010 playlist across the globe.
"King of Broken Hearts" is amped, raw, & an all out rock anthem album with catchy melodies and hook-driven lyrics. Both albums can currently be downloaded on iTunes as well as several other music download sites.

Feature Friday: The Ultrasounds

The Ultrasounds were formed in 2003 by Christopher Gilbert (vocals/bass/keyboard) and Patrick Conway (guitar). Initially a four-piece made up of friends from Ann Arbor, Michigan’s experimental Community High School, they played straight-up throwback rock n’ roll. By 2006, however, graduation and life had scattered The Ultrasounds across the country. The remaining members decided to keep the band alive, streamlining their lineup and adding drummer/vocalist Sara Kay. As the new membership played together a new sound began to emerge, a sound that was more forward thinking but still based on roots rock. Incorporating influences as diverse as the Strokes, Elliott Smith, and Phoenix, and sharing songwriting duties, The Ultrasounds have developed into a powerful indie rock trio with psychedelic leanings. Voted Most Underrated Band by the readers of Ann Arbor’s Current Magazine in 2008 —and Best Rock Band in 2009—they’ve played over 150 shows throughout the Midwest.

In 2010, The Ultrasounds released their second full-length, Give Up the Fight. The record reveals a band in its peak, with an eminently accessible, epic arena-rock sound that has been compared to the likes of Kings Of Leon and Pink Floyd

"I think the biggest thing we learned on the album is how to use the recording studio almost like another instrument to help us accomplish things we couldn't do live with the three person set up," said Conway.

Gilbert agrees, "The whole sound just got a lot more sophisticated...Everything sounded a little darker. We wanted to push what was going on harmonically with extensions and how the voices were interacting between the piano and guitar, but it's still pop accessible."

You can check out The Ultrasounds for yourself with "After You Close Your Eyes"  only on JamLegend.

Feature Friday: Juke Kartel

http://www.jasonharter.com/Clients/JukeKartel/Juke_Kartel_Pressgoods/Juke_Kartel_Pressgoods_files/JukeKartel_095L_1.jpg

Juke Kartel is a big deal in their native Australia, who have shared the stage with big names like Ozzy Osbourne, Fergie, and Slash. With their second release Levolution, they hope to conquer the rest of the world .  The rallying cry is “Anybody Out There” from the album, testing the waters and waiting for an enthusiastic YES! from the US and the rest of the world.

In order to familiarize their international audience with their earlier material, Juke Kartel penned six new songs produced by Brian Virtue (Jane’s Addiction, Velvet Revolver, 30 Seconds to Mars, Chevelle) and Rick Parashar (Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, 3 Doors Down, Nickelback) and added half dozen songs from their Australia-only debut Nowhere Left to Hide. Their world conquest seems to be on the right track with Parashar’s ringing endorsement: “Juke Kartel is one of the best bands to come out in a long time. They definitely are on their way to being a commercial arena rock band, with a ‘60s, grunge-like quality that gives them an edge.”

Juke Kartel’s fast rise from local “larrikins” to national stardom has given them a lot of food for thought, which defines the themes in Levolution. The album explores everything from relationships, including a disarming moment of being shot down by a potential date, to a life of excess to car crashes and consequences. With varied subject matters come different tones and musical textures. Some songs rise and soar on powerful vocals while others feature off-kilter rhythms and syncopation, but it’s all tied together with masterful songwriting, arrangement, and hook-driven catchiness.

Will Juke Kartel succeed outside of their native land? The magic eight ball says, “Outlook good.” With their proven track record in Australia and a strong endorsement from industry heavyweights, there is a good chance Juke Kartel will thrive outside the friendly hothouse. Check out the song “Bullet Wearing Trademark Clothes” on JamLegend and judge for yourself!

Feature Friday: Default

“It almost feels like youʼre reborn again and youʼre taking your first steps, and whoʼs going to hold your hand to help you learn how to walk again?” ponders “It almost feels like youʼre reborn again and youʼre taking your first steps, and whoʼs going to hold your hand to help you learn how to walk again?” ponders Dave Benedict, bassist for Default.  That may have been the feeling hanging over the band as they prepare for their fourth album Comes and Goes, hitting the stores on October 23. The album had an original release date of Spring 2008, only to be shelved when the label putting it out went out of business as yet another casualty of the shrinking music industry. But with a new record label associated with Nickelback and a slew of exciting tour dates in Spring 2010--including playing for Canadian and international troops in Afghanistan--Default seems re-energized to the point where they can put their foot forward: “Weʼd been stagnate we really wanted something cool and different to happen for us. We just really got into being a band again,” reflects vocalist Dallas Smith.

Founded in 1999 in Vancouver, BC, Canada, Default found a champion in Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger shortly after they began. Their debut The Fallout boasted many hit songs totalling 600,000 spins on the radio as well as the coveted Juno Award for Best New Group in 2002. By 2003, The Fallout was certified Platinum with 1 million copies sold in the United States and Default was in prime position to conquer the world. Through the ups of more accolades and the downs of an ailing music industry, Default pushed through the years writing songs, releasing records, and playing to countless people around the world.

Their latest album Comes and Goes is another stepping stone toward further recognition of their dedication and talent, with the entire band agreeing that it is by far their best accomplishment in the studio. “Right off the bat we knew this was a special album and that it came together exactly the way we wanted it to,” says Dallas. While there are standard breakup songs, Comes and Goes features more positive energy than ever with love songs and then there is “Caught in the Moment,” a song dedicated to Dallas’s young son, which Dallas hopes will help him understand his dad better when he is older. Default supplied JamLegend with another song "Turn It On" from the new album so check it out below!

Comes and Goes is be available in stores and online now! For more info on Default, check out their official site or MySpace page.

Private Libraries: Now for VIPs Only

A little over a year ago, we introduced private libraries so that you
could play the songs you already own. In our constant efforts to
improve JamLegend, we thought, "What could be better than playing your
own songs?" Well, how about not having to upload your MP3s to
JamLegend just to download them again when it comes time to play! And
so, this past August we introduced the JamBox: play the songs you own,
without them ever leaving your computer.

After launching the JamBox, we noticed that we had a lot of private
library songs stored on JamLegend that users weren't playing anymore.
This hurts the community, because it costs us to store things that
nobody uses. We want to spend our resources focusing on things that
our users enjoy and use frequently, not storing old songs nobody wants
anymore! So, we decided to remove the library...

Oh, what a mistake that was! In doing so, we neglected a very
important group of users: our VIPs. They still used the library, had
paid for the library, and very much cared about their songs so
meticulously uploaded to JamLegend for posterity (and access from
anywhere). Fortunately, we had not removed any data yet.

So, we are happy to announce that the private library has returned, as
a VIP-only feature. For most of us, the JamBox is all we need: fast,
easy access to the songs we love. But for some of us, being able to
have access to our favorite songs anywhere, anytime, is important too.
And so, for those users, there is the private library as part of our
VIP membership.

This is a good move for JamLegend. It allows us to focus our
resources on our active users, without waste from storing unused
inventory.

Finally, as a thank-you to our VIPs, who so graciously put up with us
when we make mistakes, we've extended all VIP memberships by an
additional week. So, for those days without the library, enjoy a free
week of VIP on us!

Feature Friday: Rhythm, Rhyme, Results

(from left to right: Tommy Boots, Ben Jackson, The Arcitype, and Robbie Mitchell)

Do you ever have a hard time remembering all the state capitals of the US? Well JamLegend is proud to present you with Rhythm, Rhyme, Results' song "50 States, 50 Capitals," created by Ben Jackson (RRR co-founder, lyricist, executive producer), Tommy Boots (vocalist), The Arcitype (producer), and Robbie Mitchell (RRR co-founder, executive producer).

Rhythm, Rhyme, Results is unique, in that their goal is to create the most entertaining and effective educational music on the planet.   They create songs by carefully combining ivy-league nerds with actual hip-hop artists, working closely together with everyone to make it all come together.   The resulting songs help students remember important points in MathScienceReading/WritingHistory and more.   Last year they were even honored with two Parents' Choice Awards.

Robbie Mitchell says, "We've had a lot of fun putting songs on JamLegend and watching students compete for better scores.  Our songs work well with visuals, and to have them paired with a game is even better.  The best part of repeated gameplay on JamLegend is that you slowly memorize the lyrics, which embeds all those academic facts in your head without you even realizing."

As far as distribution, they sell CDs and downloads to individuals, and they also built RRR.fm, a streaming service for schools that has a smart, simple playlist system for teachers and their students.  It makes it easy for them to offer unlimited, 24/7, on-demand access to individual albums or their entire library.  It currently starts at just $2.99/month for individual teachers.

You can head over to http://www.educationalrap.com/song/50-states-50-capitals.html to check out the lyrics and purchase the song.

Feature Friday: UnSun

After 10 years in the legendary death metal band Vader, Maurycy “Mauser” Stefanowicz was ready for a new direction. He left the band and eventually began a collaboration with singer Aya, originally called Unseen but now called UnSun. Their first rehearsal together proved a powerful experience of kindred souls connecting over a mutual passion to create music. It was clear from that moment on that this musical endeavor will not just be Mauser’s side project.

Mauser and Aya recruited musicians Wawrzyniec “Vaaver” Dramowicz and Filip “Heinrich” Hałucha to expand the lineup to a four-piece and recorded the demo Whispers in 2006. They also changed the band name from Unseen to UnSun to reflect the interplay of light and dark, the melodic and the crushingly brutal in their music. Eventually, the demo caught the attention of prominent European labels and UnSun released their debut The End of Life with Century Media in 2008. Their live presence has been in demand at huge summer music festivals such as Wave Gotik Treffen, Summer Breeze and Metal Female Voices Fest. In 2010, they recorded their second album Clinic for Dolls at Hertz Studio (Behemoth, Vader, Decapitated etc.) in Bialystok and Studio X in Olsztyn.

Clinic for Dolls is available now in North America via Armoury/Eagle Rock. Check out the song "Home" from the album on JamLegend or play it below! For more info on UnSun, please visit their MySpace page.

Feature Friday: Drive A

A chance meeting outside of the Troubadour in Los Angeles was Drive A’s inception: the siren lure of live music with its booming bass, white hot lights, and rapt crowds used to be a night out for vocalist/guitarist Bruno Mascolo and rhythm guitarist Jason Nott, but now it’s their bread and butter as professional musicians. The random conversation they had outside the club turned into a bond of working relationship as they developed on ideas for songs and wrote music together. With killer riffs, punk rock hooks, and a raw, Rock 'N' Roll gutter-snarl, Drive A had a winning formula that quickly caught on. The band logged miles playing 100 shows in just over a year, supporting bands like Rise Against, Papa Roach, Anti-Flag, and Pennywise.

In 2009, Drive A released their debut Loss of Desire, a collection of anthems for a new generation. Personal and from the heart yet relatable, the songs appeal to our everyday frustrations. “I think what sets us apart from a lot of bands out there right now is the fact that we are experiencing the exact same things as our fans and that’s what our songs are about,” says guitarist Jason Nott. Bruno agrees, “The songs on this album are about being frustrated with a lot of things, most of the lyrics I write are personal, but I think anyone listening can relate to them in their own way. I leave it up to them to interpret what they are hearing.”

Drive A continue to hit the road in the US and abroad, inciting audiences to let go and be swept away by the rock-n-roll spectacle. “Touring is the life’s blood of this band,” says Bruno. “Recording and everything else is cool, but we are a live band and that is the best way to experience Drive A.”       You can get a taste for Drive A’s infectious punk-infused rock by playing their single “Take a Side” on JamLegend. To find out more about Drive A, please visit their MySpace and Facebook pages.

Mose Giganticus JamLegend Challenge!

A truly unique band is like a diamond buried in a whole desert of sand--you see things shine and sparkle everywhere, but they don’t have value like a precious stone. So many bands boast genre bending these days, but very few bands own it like Mose Giganticus, who cut their own path through the thicket of metal, hardcore, and progressive rock to take us on a curious journey. While permutations of the keyboard-meets-heavy-guitar-rock have been done before by bands like Mose Giganticus’s Relapse labelmates Genghis Tron or fellow Philadelphians An Albatross, what sets the band apart is how much of the rock foundation they keep intact without veering into noise or dance rock territory. Mose Giganticus has the muscle-bound swagger of metal and hardcore with a heart full of love for nerdy epic prog rock.

Mose Giganticus, hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is actually a one-man music project by Matt Garfield supported by a cast of talented musicians for live shows. There are so many things that make Mose Giganticus so unique from the converted bio-diesel bus they tour in to the use of the fabled keytar.  It’s not that they’re trying to stand out or get attention; they’re just that way--wildly creative and really good at articulating ideas in musical form.  After releasing two records on smaller indie labels, Mose Giganticus signed to Relapse and released their third album Gift Horse produced by Vince Ratti. As with the previous albums built around a central theme, Gift Horse explores the theme of Old Testament mythology and Armageddon.

Mose Giganticus and Relapse Records have teamed up with JamLegend to bring you an exiting new contest, and another chance to win awesome prizes!

Beat the target score on "The Left Path" on any difficulty and mode, and you'll enter to win awesome prizes including:

Normal:
- Autographed Mose Giganticus 'Gift Horse' CD

Skilled:
- Autographed Mose Giganticus 'Gift Horse', 'Commander' & 'Invisible Hand' CDs

Insane:
