So many bands boast genre bending these days, but very few bands own it like Mose Giganticus, who cut their own path through the thicket of metal, hardcore, and progressive rock to take us on a curious journey. While permutations of the keyboard-meets-heavy-guitar-rock have been done before by bands like Mose Giganticus’s Relapse labelmates Genghis Tron or fellow Philadelphians An Albatross, what sets the band apart is how much of the rock foundation they keep intact without veering into noise or dance rock territory. Mose Giganticus has the muscle-bound swagger of metal and hardcore with a heart full of love for nerdy epic prog rock.
Mose Giganticus, hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is actually a one-man music project by Matt Garfield supported by a cast of talented musicians for live shows. After releasing two records on smaller indie labels, Mose Giganticus signed to Relapse and released their third album Gift Horse produced by Vince Ratti. As with the previous albums built around a central theme, Gift Horse explores the theme of Old Testament mythology and Armageddon.
