345 chord problem fix plus a surprise

We just made a few changes to the game. Among them is a new item in the options page (http://www.jamlegend.com/options) to turn all 3+ note chords into 2 note chords. If you were previously having problems hitting certain chords like 345 this will solve the issue, although you will only get 100 points for the chord not 150.

We have also added a little surprise. If you play a few songs and are lucky you are bound to discover it. Enjoy!

Downtime and Showdown Songs

We had some unexpected and undesirable downtime from approximately 6am - 8:30am (GMT+8) today. The issue has been corrected, and we are working on preventing future occurrences. As a note, we may have to make small changes throughout today. Most of the time, these won't be noticeable, but, if you see the "Down for Maintenance" page again, just try back in a minute and we should be back.

Also, we experienced problems retrieving songs for Showdowns last night. That issue has also been resolved and should not present any more problems. (Edit:  This problem also related to the "Next Song" and "Skip Song" producing error pages last night).

Wow, rough start to the weekend.... : (

Introducing JamLegend Videos!

We just launched a video site so you can share videos with other JamLegend users. The site is powered by Fliggo, which lets anyone create a video site in just minutes.

http://jamlegend.fliggo.com is the perfect place to post videos of your top scores, crazy keytar dance moves, tips and tricks for the games and reviews for tracks and songs.

Check it out and post some videos!

Levels!

Notice the little number next to everyone's name?  Well we now have levels on the site.

What do levels do?
Levels allow you to show off your experience to others on the site. In the future we may also unlock features on the site as you reach certain levels.

How do levels work?
Every time you play a song you will earn some experience points (xp). After you earn enough experience points your level will increase. You will notice that with each level it becomes more challenging and difficult to advance to the next.

How do experience points work?
You earn experience points based on how many points you earn on a song. You will notice that you will get more experience from higher difficulties since it is possible to earn more points on high difficulties.

Can I lose experience points?
Nope! Once you earn xp, it's yours forever to keep and cherish. Even if you lose to Roxanne you will still earn experience for simply beating the song.

How else can I earn experience?
If you get a friend to sign up for JamLegend using your referral link (found on your friends page) you will get 500 bonus xp when they reach level 2. In addition, every time your friend level up afterwards, you get some extra bonus xp. You can track how much xp they have earned for you by looking at the "Managed Talent" section of your profile.

Feel free to post other questions to the comments and we will answer them.

Top Trackers Now Includes All Songs

Songs that were tracked before the introduction of our tracker system last September were left out of Top Trackers page. As of today, this has been remedied and you can now see the older songs attributed to the tracker. As such, the ranking by number of songs tracked has changed, though the ranking by combined number of plays on all tracks was reflecting all songs to begin with. Glad this is taken care of!

Server Issues Resolved

For the past few hours you may have had inconsistent access to the site, sometimes getting through, sometimes received 504 Gateway Timeout errors. We apologize for the inconvenience, service has been returned to normal.

Showdowns

First, apologies to anybody that was playing showdowns for the last half hour or so, we probably cut you off mid-game a few times.  More importantly, if you've had trouble playing showdowns before, getting stuck at "Connecting to Host..." we'd really like you to try again.  We just made a change to the configuration that we think might get along better with firewalls.  So, if you had trouble before, give it a shot and let us know in the comments if you were able to connect this time.  Also, if you were not having trouble before and ARE having trouble now, please let us know that as well.  Thanks!

Discovered Race-condition in Auto-match Showdowns

... that is currently preventing people from joining a normal showdown. I'm going to restart the showdown server, which will temporarily solve the problem, then fix up that section of code to ensure proper thread synchronization. We apologize for the troubles, it will be fixed shortly.

Updates: User Badges and Faster Friends Page

Just pushed a set of updates, two of which should be rather obvious.

User Badges
There has been some confusion on JamLegend (in the comments and Showdown chat rooms) and off of JamLegend (IRC, etc) as to who works for JamLegend and who doesn't.  After receiving a few complaints and questions about users purporting to be site admins or developers, we decided to make it clear to everybody who holds special roles on JamLegend.  So, you'll now notice some users have a badge (or more) following their username.  They may include "F", "P", "M", "T", or some combination.  With the exception of Showdowns, which we haven't updated yet, the badge(s) should be displayed everywhere on JamLegend where the user's username is shown.  Here is a handy reference chart, though you can find out what a badge means by hovering over it.

"F" = Founder, there are three of us: Andrew, Arjun and Ryan. We develop and run JamLegend.
"M" = Moderator, possessing special powers over comments and (soon) showdown chat rooms.
"T" = Tracker, these users are to thank for being able to play songs
"P" = Producer, sort of a "super-tracker" that has additional moderating privileges in the tracker community

So, if a user purports to be special and they do not have a badge, you can safely call them a liar and we will back you up.

Faster Friends Page
It has been a problem for some time that the friends page was pitifully slow for users with large numbers of friends.  As of tonight, it's a whole lot faster.  Still not the fastest page on the site, but may no longer be the slowest either...

Game on!
