What happens in Vegas shouldn't always stay in Vegas, especially when you try your luck and win a jackpot. But jackpots don't necessarily mean a never-ending flow of quarters from a slot machine, it could mean a small opportunity that breeds success after success. That's exactly what happened to Rick DeJesus of Adelita's Way. Rick grew up under tough circumstances in Philadelphia, where many of his friends resorted to a life of violence and selling drugs, or victims of such crimes. Determined not to fall prey, Rick moved to Los Angeles to try out for a VH1 show, then eventually ended up in Las Vegas living out of his car, taking what jobs he could to keep making an honest living. Eventually, Rick's gamble paid off in the form of success as a musician--something many people dream about but only a few accomplish. In Las Vegas, Rick formed a band with Chris, Keith, Derek, and Trevor--all very talented and accomplished musicians on their own right. The result is a perfect blend of indie, hardcore, and rock-n-roll influences bolstered by Rick's songwriting. It's been a difficult journey for Rick, but the richness of his experience informs the soulfulness of Adelita's Way. Even the band name has a layered story behind it. On tour in Southern California, the band made a detour to Mexico, where they were arrested and shaken down for money by corrupt cops. All they had was a little bit of cash hidden in Rick's sock, which they spent on beer to calm their nerves before heading back on the road. The bar, called Adelita, ended up being a brothel. Rick had a meaningful conversation with one of the girls working there about her life and why someone like her would end up in a place like Adelita, and wrote a song about it.Now, Adelita's Way is a powerhouse who can sell over 10,000 albums on their own. Signed to a major record label, they're ready to grow by leaps and bounds, though Rick will continue to hold his experiences back home close to his heart for inspiration. "Invincible" is one such song spawned from his walk through life. We hope you enjoy the song, and playing along with it!
